The yesteryears actress Farida Jalal

Farida Jalal, the Bollywood actress who hails from New Delhi, was born on March 14, 1949 started her career in the 1960’s, when she won the United Film Producers Talent Hunt which was organized by Filmfare. Farida usually played the sister or rejected fiancee of the male stars, but she was never offered to play the main lead in of the films. One of her most critically commended character is in Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia starrer Bobby where she enacted the role of the mentally challenged would-be fiancee of Rishi Kapoor. During the time period of 1980’s,

her characters improved from sister and girlfriend to aunt, mother, or grandmother. The honourable actress is also remembered for her role she portrayed in Aradhana, where she enacted Rajesh Khanna's girlfriend.Farida Jalal acted for over fourty years in film industry, only taking a break during 1983 and 1990, when she settled in Bangalore. During the 1990’s, Farida Jalal acted in numerous chief hits in India, like Raja Hindustani, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Dil To Pagal Hai, Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai,Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, for which she bagged a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress. Farida also acted in many television soaps,

such as in the hit series, Dekh Bahi Dekh.She also was majestically much-admired for her character in the 1994 movie Mammo, for which she bagged the Filmfare Best Performance Award. Farida was also seen in another daily soap Shararat Thoda Jadu, Thodi Nazaakat, in which she played the main role of a fairy. The comedy serial is still telecasted on the Disney Channel.In 2005, the actress co-hosted the 50th Filmfare Awards alongside Saif Ali Khan and Sonali Bendre, organized in Mumbai. She also appeared in the Punjabi movie titles Yaariyan and another famous serial Balika Vadhu that aires on channel Colors.

She also hosted the 50th Filmfare Awards with Saif Ali Khan and Farida Jalal on February 26, 2005. Currently the actress was also the judge of a reality show India's Got Talent.
