The yesteryears actress Farida Jalal

Farida Jalal, the Bollywood actress who hails from New Delhi, was born on March 14, 1949 started her career in the 1960’s, when she won the United Film Producers Talent Hunt which was organized by Filmfare. Farida usually played the sister or rejected fiancee of the male stars, but she was never offered to play the main lead in of the films. One of her most critically commended character is in Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia starrer Bobby where she enacted the role of the mentally challenged would-be fiancee of Rishi Kapoor. such as in the hit series, Dekh Bahi Dekh.She also was majestically much-admired for her character in the 1994 movie Mammo, for which she bagged the Filmfare Best Performance Award. Farida was also seen in another daily soap Shararat Thoda Jadu, Thodi Nazaakat, in which she played the main role of a fairy. The comedy serial is still telecasted on the Disney Channel.In 2005, the actress co-hosted the 50th Filmfare Awards alongside Saif Ali Khan and Sonali Bendre, organized in Mumbai. She also appeared in the Punjabi movie titles Yaariyan and another famous serial Balika Vadhu that aires on channel Colors.

In 1980s, Farida Jalal's roles progressed from sister and girlfriend to aunt, mother, or nanny. She is also remembered for her part in Aradhana, in which she plays Rajesh Khanna's girlfriend.

The actress has acted for over 40 years. During the 1990s, Farida Jalal acted in films like Raja Hindustani, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Dil To Pagal Hai, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, for which the lady won a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.

In 2005, Farida co-hosted the 50th Filmfare Awards alongside Saif Ali Khan and Sonali Bendre, that held in Mumbai. She recently made a special appearance in the Punjabi film Yaariyan.

She also hosted the 50th Filmfare Awards with Saif Ali Khan and Farida Jalal on February 26, 2005. Currently the actress was also the judge of a reality show India's Got Talent.
