Namrata Shirodkar

Namrata Shirodkar was born on 22 January 1972 in Mumbai, India. She is an Indian actress and former model The actress used to live in Khar, in Mumbai initially. Her sister Shilpa Shirodkar also works in Bollywood as an actress.
Namrata is the granddaughter of famous Marathi actress Meenakshi Shirodkar, who featured in film Brahmachari, and was the first actress to wear a swimsuit.


Namrata Shirodkar began dating Tollywood star Mahesh Babu after the shooting of Vamsee in the year 2000. They got married on 10 February 2005. Now the actress stays in Hyderabad with her husband. Namrata Shirodkar worked as a model, and was crowned Miss India back in 1993. She also represented India in the Miss Universe pageant and earned the sixth position . She made her debut with a small character in superhit flick Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai which was released in 1998, opposite Salman Khan alongwith Twinkle Khanna who played the lead role. Namrata then went on to star in the hit flick Vaastav opposite superstar Sanjay Dutt. Her performance well acknowledged and she became a known name in Bollywood fraternity.

She has played mainly supporting roles in movies like Pukar, Hera Pheri and Astitva. She was also nominated for the IIFA Best Supporting Actress Award for her performance in Pukar and the film also featured Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit. In 1999, Namrata featured opposite Megastar Mammootty in the Malayalam project titled “Ezhupunna Tharakan”. In 2004, she starred opposite another South superstar Chiranjeevi in a Telugu Movie "ANJI " In 2004 she went back into the limelight when she played the character of Jaya Bakshi in Bride and Prejudice. In the film she played elder sister to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The film was a hit overseas particularly in the UK but failed to do well in India.

Namrata then took up new project that was a big hit titled Vaastav. Her performance was appreciated and she became a known name in Bollywood. The actress has played mainly supporting roles in films like Pukar, Hera Pheri and Astitva went on to do well. She was nominated for the IIFA Best Supporting Actress Award for her performance in Pukar. Since then her films have not done well at the box office. In 1999, she starred opposite Superstyar Mammootty in the Malayalam film Ezhupunna Tharakan.

In 2004 the beautiful girl went back into the limelight when she played the role of Jaya Bakshi in Bride and Prejudice. She played Aishwarya Rai's elder sister in the film. The film was a hit overseas particularly in the UK but failed to do well in India. She has since left the industry after her marriage.
