World famous department stores may be found in this busy square.

Mailed to:
Dianne Gottwals

Saratoga, CA.

Postmark:
*Like last weeks postcard, this card was sent from the post office on Liberty Island and features the unique cancellation mark used only at that post office. Unfortunately it appears that at the time this card was mailed, they didn't use a date in the cancellation mark, just a "Mailed at the Statue of Liberty" inscription. The card WAS dated by the sender as May 25th, but alas, with no year mentioned in the date.

Card Reads:
Hi Diane - We are on a ferry on our way to see Statue of Liberty. We went to China Town this morning. Very Interesting here. So many tall builsdings. Love, Grandma Rose and Grandpa. (Save the stamp for Will).

Old Postcards from New York City to Back Home #18: Herald Square, 1909

'Tis been a while since we posted any "Old Postcards from New York," almost a year actually. The last one was back on 09/14/09. I recently obtained just a few more, so I'll share them over the next few weeks. It'll kinda take the place of the "King's Views of New York" for now I guess.

This first one is really great...it's 99 years old. I paid $1.oo for it.
