Seema Biswas


Seema Biswas was born on January 14, 1965. Seema Biswas has a reputation for performing strong character roles.

Biswas won the 1996 National Film Award for Best Actress for her role in the film. She won the 2000 Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and the 2006 Best Actress Genie Award for her role as Shakuntala in Deepa Mehta's Water in 2005.

In the year 2008 Seema Biswas did Amal, Striker, What Is Cooking? and Heaven on Earth. Then in 2007 she came with Sofia and Kamagata Maru. In the year 2006, Seema gave performed in Vivah, Shoonya, Zindaggi Rocks. Then in 2005 she came with Water, Mumbai Godfather, The White Land. In the year 2004 Seema acted in four movies Kaya Taran, Dobara, Ek Hasina Thi, Hanan. Going to the year 2003 she gave her good performances in Boom,she was also nominated as the Best Suporting Actress for Bhoot.

Following the same year she did two more films Iyarkai, Pinjar. In 2002 came Deewangee, Company, Ghaav: The Wound. Seema acted in Dhyasparva which came in 2001. Year 1999 gave her Bindhaast, Samar. In 1998 the actress did Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa. In 1996 Seema Biswas won the Best Supporting Actress award for Khamoshi: The Musical. Seema also received the Best Debut Award for Bandit Queen in 1994 for playing the role of Phoolan Devi.

Seema Biswas debuted after Shekhar Kapur watched her perform in Khubsurat Bahu, a play produced by NSD Repertory Company, and offered her a role in Bandit Queen. Although Seema had earlier acted in Assamese cinema this was her first big break into Hindi cinema, and she arrived with a bang.

Rooted firmly in theatre, Seema has worked in a variety of films and character roles. She has also worked in a number of Malayalam, and a Tamil film.
