Kalki Koechlin

Kalki Koechlin is an Indian actress who made her debut in Anurag Kashyap's critically acclaimed 2009 Hindi movie Dev D. In the movie Kalki played the character of Chandramukhi. Kalki Koechlin was born to French parents and hails from a small village in Pondicherry.

Kalki can very well speak Tamil, English and French while she had to learn Hindi as to prepare for her role in Dev.D. For her work in Dev D, she received lot of appreciation and was awarded the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2010.

Kalki Koechlin was also paired with Bollywood actor Imran Khan for a Coca Cola ad. Now the actress will be seen next in Anurag Kashyap's That Girl in Yellow Boots and in Ram Gopal Varma's Happy Journey. It is heard that Kalki would also appear in Zoya Akhtar's forthcoming film Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara with Bollywood stars Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif and Abhay Deol. Kalki Koechlin won The Hindu Metro Plus Playwright Award 2009 along with Prashant Prakash for their co-authored entry Skeleton Woman.

Kalki Koechlin is an upcoming Bollywood actress who started her Bollywood career in Dev D opposite Abhay Deol ,an Anurag Kashyap venture.Her role in the movie as Chanda aka Chandra Mukhi was critically acclaimed.The movie itself was an adaptation of the legendary Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's Devdas.

Kalki though born in India is of French descent.Her parents came to India 38 years ago and settled in a small village in Pondicherry. Kalki who studied in Ooty later on went to London to study drama in Goldsmiths,University of London after her parents insisted.The actress is fluent in Tamil,English and French.Kalki was also a part of a theater group called Theater of Relativity for two years.She showed her acting skills in various plays like “The Blue Room” by David Hare,”The Dispute” by Marivaux.

Kalki moved to Mumbai and worked in various commercials before being a part of a modern twist to the old Bengali Novel Devdas. She describes her character as someone who is more than just a prostitute stating that the character dresses up like a normal girl when she is not “working”.She was apprehensive as to how people will see her in the role but considered herself lucky since she got to work with a director like Anurag Kashyap.
